Inventor Professional 2017 is one of the latest editions of professional software for engineering design. With new professional-level Design Tools your designing process becomes faster, while your performance gets optimized at the same time. Besides that, the developers of Inventor Professional 2017 have taken in consideration all previous versions and enhanced interoperability tools in order to establish interconnection among all aspects of projects that you work on. In addition, the communication tools have also undergone modification and now the information is available for sharing to anybody and by anybody within your team, and that does not depend on their software or location.
The summary below lists down all the new features of Inventor Professional 2017 that are available in the new version.
Professional Grade Design
Inventor Professional 2017 provides the support of mirroring and patterning i-Features for multibody parts. With this new version, user is able to window select several closed profiles within the Extrude command. During Boundary Patches design, user can access new Guide Rails and pick points and/or curves to develop the shape of patch and control form as well as continuity with a better precision. You can also access Angle option within Ruled Surface in order to define the surface direction.
Improved Presentations
Inventor Professional 2017 demonstrates multiple improvement to workflows for presentations in order to build high-class presentations as well as other types of instructional views within assembly. Major improvements to the Presentation environment are generally divided into two general areas – storyboard and snapshots. Likewise, all the existing presentations (IPNs) can completely migrate within software. Exploded views can now be converted to snapshots, where by animations can be converted to storyboards, while tweaks remain preserved.
3D Sketch Enhancements
Inventor Professional 2017 contains design enhancements, while allow users to perform a faster design. 3D sketch environment has undergone significant changes and now requires less time and effort to construct 3D sketches. With help of 3D Transform, the geometry can now be moved and rotated faster and more precisely. Latest constraint types assist in providing a more efficient control. Sketch geometries can be added directly onto 3D faces. 3D sketch geometry can be easily copied and pasted within the same existing sketch.
Interoperability Improvement
Inventor Professional 2017 provides an expansion to AnyCAD, so that STEP models have an option to be attached in a form of Reference Model, while maintaining a direct link to the file, which means it will change once STEP file has undergone certain changes.
Inventor Professional 2017 demonstrates major enhancements of the reference model update process, which now is able to perform an efficient level of associativity. This includes SolidWorks, CATIA, Pro-E/Creo and NX files. The multithreading function has further expanded to be able to boost the performance during the process of updating and import.
Inventor Professional 2017 demonstrates an enhanced level of robustness and efficiency, thanks to new improvements to its framework and main engines, which will definitely be useful to all the professional engineers and designers.
I decided to buy Inventor 2016 because I read about its improved functionality for working with sheet metal. I did not expect such operational work from the store on a weekend. The staff contacted me 10 minutes after the left application and helped me find what I needed. As a result, on the same day I became the owner of Inventor 2016 from Autodesk without spending a lot of money.

I've been using Maya since 2000, a year after it came out. It's disgustingly obvious at this point that now that we're all forced onto subscriptions for many years, the features they add each year are clearly not worth the tens of thousands of dollars we have to pay for 5 to 10 licenses. Those of you who haven't been around long enough on the 3D scene don't understand how much you're paying for so very little. Autodesk no longer have any motivation to give us anything substantial because if we don't pay them, then they terminate our ability to use their software. They cooked up this idea back in 2017, and it's been down hill ever since. We have no way to retaliate, other than to revert back to using version 2018 (the last perpetual license version). We now live in the age of software hell.

I am an architect and 3Ds Max is the perfect solution for my job. I love that I can use not only the built-in toolbox, but I can also expand it with free or commercial add-ons. Also, I often create my own tools when I write in the scripting language. It is very convenient and makes my workflow easier.
